10 Top Packing Tips to Help You Travel Like an Expert

It’s vacation season! Your tickets are bought, the destination and itinerary are set, and now for the final (and dreaded) step— packing your bags.

With so many articles of clothing, shoes, accessories, and other necessities, it’s difficult to decide what to pack and what to leave behind! Fitting everything you need for a vacation can be tricky, but these packing tips are sure to lighten your load and make getting ready for your trip more enjoyable.

1. Make a Giant List

Whether you’re the best packer or not, most people tend to forget to pack a few items for their vacation. Take note of everything (from clothing to toiletry items) that you want to bring on your trip before packing. Whether it’s written down on a physical list or a digitally, this will give you greater confidence that you won’t forget anything you need and will save you from any packing related stress.

2. Begin Packing Ahead of Time

Everyone knows that packing isn’t fun when you have to scramble to get everything packed in time. Begin putting things in your suitcase or duffel bag the week (or even earlier) before your trip, especially the things you think you’ll forget. By the time departure time comes, your bag will be ready to go!

3. Pack Basic Clothing Pieces

Not only will this allow you to pack as efficiently and lightly as possible, but this will make getting ready on vacation even easier. Who wants to waste precious vacation time by searching and contemplating what to wear? Instead, pack basic, versatile wardrobe “staples” that will match and look great with whatever you decide to wear.

4. Pack Extra Plastic Bags

From keeping any liquids (such as shampoo, conditioner, etc.) from spilling all over, to holding any unwanted dirty laundry or shoes, this simple hack will keep all of your belongings as organized (and clean) as possible.

5. Get Creative with Packing

Roll and fold your clothing items to maximize luggage space. Think outside the box!

6. Bring a Reusable Water Bottle

Stay hydrated while traveling by having a reusable water bottle with you at all times. Fill it up wherever possible, and enjoy. This saves plastic (and money) and ensures that you'll always have access to water.

7. Cut Back on Shoes

Let's be honest. How many pairs of shoes do you really need for a vacation? Pack one pair of shoes per activity or occasion, and make sure they’ll match your outfits.

8. Pack a Mini First-Aid (or Essentials) Kit

Make sure you have all necessities in case of emergencies such as pain reliever, band-aids, safety pins etc. on hand. Combat any unwanted surprises by being prepared.

9. Wear Heavier and Thicker Items as You Travel

Maximize your potential luggage space and be ready for chilly airplane or car rides.

10. Consider Any Luggage Space You Might Need When Returning

Whether you plan on shopping til you drop on your getaway or bringing back souvenirs, think about where any extra items will go. Leave some room in your luggage, carry-on or pack an extra bag.

We hope these tips and hacks help you pack for your next adventure!
